HHO - dry cell: What causes the rust colored sludge to form?

I've got an HHO dry cell I've been experimenting with - I've had excellent success with it using distilled water and lye for an electrolyte and pushed my Ford E-350 7.8liter up to 27mpg on the highway using the HHO generators. However, I get an orange sludge - rust colored - after a while. I've been told that the grade of my stainless steel plates is what's doing it - any ideas?

Yes it the grade of stainless I think I was using t403 or something....its not cheap.
